The EDAM-40 is an Australian-developed 40mm munition designed to deploy a 2.8 metre entanglement net in under one second. Engineered for integration with standard 40mm grenade launchers already in service, it gives individual soldiers and fire teams an immediate counter-drone response against FPV UAS threats — no dedicated counter-drone system, no additional equipment, only existing launcher proficiency.
The munition employs a discarding sabot design that initiates a rapid net deployment sequence on barrel exit. It is optimised for close tactical engagements where drone proximity poses an immediate risk to personnel. As a sovereign Australian capability, it supports supply chain security and aligns with requirements for reliable, range tested personal protection systems.

Net geometry — 2.8 m entanglement diameter
The EDAM-40 uses a sabot-activated deployment system to rapidly expand the entanglement net. Upon exiting the launcher, the three discarding sabots separate, releasing the five deployment arms. A low-power propellant charge then drives the arms outward, fully deploying the 2.8 metre net in under one second.
This non-explosive mechanism provides reliable, symmetrical deployment while remaining safe for the operator and surrounding personnel.
